Bear Lake

Tucked at the edge of this 'bear' shaped lake, this small village was first settled by Russell Smith in 1863.Ten years later George W Hopkins purchased the quiet town and developed it as a service community. Logging and the railroad played a significant role in its early days.

Today, Bear Lake caters to retirees and tourists alike. Spend some time shopping in the village, golf or head for the public access of this 1800 acre lake, where fishing, swimming, sailing and boating are enjoyed. Fall and winter brings visitors back to cross country ski, ice fish, snowmobile and hunt. Home town pride rules this peaceful small town, so come and relax in this amazing getaway area.

Bear Lake is located just five miles from Lake Michigan, on U.S 31 at the northern edge of beautiful Manistee County.
